Plumbing and Sheet-Metal

The training programme is designed to train the iTaukei and Rotuman to acquire the knowledge and skills in plumbing works to be able to undertake the National Trade Test Plumbing and Sheet-Metal General Class III from Fiji National University. The primary aim after the course is the knowledge acquired will enable them to assist in their community development work or be employed as a Trade Assistant or Junior Tradesman in relevant field of work.

Upon completion of the training programme the trainee should be able to demonstrate safety attitudes in use of hand tools, machines and materials, interpret simple technical specifications after completing the following units:

•Carry out interactive workplace communication
• Write simple documents
• Provide basic emergency life support
• Work safely in the construction industry
• Apply OHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
• Work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry
• Carry out measurements and calculations
• Apply basic levelling procedures
• Read and interpret plans and specifications
• Produce technical drawings
• Use basic plumbing hand tools
• Use basic power tools
• Perform basic oxy-acetylene welding and cutting
• Use basic electric welding equipment and techniques
• Use plumbing pipes, fittings and installations
• Apply basic sheet metal practices
• Fabricate simple plumbing pipe systems
• Identify career pathways in the plumbing industry
